Juntos Servimos - Together We Serve Serving people in need in Mexico by eliminating barriers to physical and spiritual wholeness, one community at a time!
You are invited to serve as a volunteer at Casa Bugambilia. Individually or with a group, you are welcome to join in the response to the invitations from the colonias. Some of these responses include:
Constructing a home for those living in structures causing ill health.
Constructing a facility at Casa Bugambilia to shelter and care for those who are ill and abandoned and those untreated for diabetes.
Helping with educational activities for children to instill reading, writing and math skills and values such as punctuality, diligence and respect for others.
Helping to prepare and distribute food to the hungry.
Providing, and training community members to provide, physical and occupational therapy for men and women at the Casa Bugambilia albergue, as well as other colonias residents.
Helping create wellness programs in areas of preventable disease, such as diabetes, including designing with exercise routines.
Volunteers are an essential part of Casa Bugambilia’s response to the needs of the people living in the colonias. One recent summer, Leanna, a physical therapist from Indiana, visited Casa Bugambilia. She created a physical therapy program for some of the children with physical disabilities. They include Lupita, who has cerebral palsy, and Angelita who has spina bifida. Leanna also taught local community members how to do the physical therapy so that the healing continued after her mission ended. Lupita and Angelita continue to make progress because of Leanna. This is just one example. Volunteers visiting Casa Bugambilia have helped transform the colonias by applying their skills in the areas of medicine and physical therapy, education, construction, engineering and architecture.
We are responding to the invitation of the residents of the colonias. We also want to respond to your goals when you choose to serve with us at Casa Bugambilia.
You can contact our Mission Director, Larry Cox, to discuss your visit to Casa Bugambilia. Larry can be reached at:
Larry will check for available space, as well as advise you regarding the logistics of your visit, including options for transportation in Matamoros and places to stay.
When you chose to visit Casa Bugambilia, you are choosing to contribute not only your time, but also your money, and possibly the money of people supporting you, to transform the colonias.
For the typical visit of less than one week, we request $50 per person per day to cover the cost of supplies and other expenses incurred supporting your visit, as well as to support Casa Bugambilia’s response to the community. Individuals who are interested in visiting for an extended period of time should contact Larry to discuss an appropriate donation. Side-by-side with your contribution is the commitment of the entire Casa Bugambilia community – volunteers permanently in the colonias as well as financial sponsors throughout the United States and Mexico -- to support each mission trip volunteer the best we can. Please know that we are inviting other individuals and organizations to match the contributions of those like you who serve in the colonias.
Once your visit is confirmed, you will work with our Executive Director, Ellen Curnes, to assure that all required forms and payments are received prior to your arrival at Casa Bugambilia. Each volunteer serving at Casa Bugambilia is required to complete a participation agreement. CLICK HERE to download the Casa Bugambilia Volunteer Information and Release Agreement.
